CAPE Town is the most congested city in SA for the second time in a row according to Dutch navigation equipment maker TomTomâ€™s traffic index released recently.
The index shows that the mother city had an annual increase of 1% and you will need to add at least 40 minutes extra travel time during peak hours on highways.
The city is ranked the 47th worst in the world while Johannesburg sits at number 77 out of 174 cities listed.
In Cape Townâ€š morning peak traffic is high during the week with Mondays being the worst day to travel in some suburbs.
Afternoon peak traffic is the highest on Wednesdayâ€š Thursday and Friday and overall traffic in Cape Town showed a 5% increase from 2009.
Just like Cape Townâ€š morning peak traffic in Johannesburg is higher on Mondays and it is at its highest in the afternoons on Wednesdaysâ€š Thursdays and Fridays.
Traffic congestion in Johannesburg has seen a 3% decrease since 2009.
Even though Pretoria has the least traffic congestion among the three cities and has not been named on the listâ€š it also has similar traffic trends with congestion at its highest on Monday mornings and Friday afternoons.
